Chemical Constituents and Components : Main chemical components are gingeole, zingerone, shogaol, zingiberene, cineol, borneol, phellandrene, citral, zingiberene, linalool, geraniol, chavicol, vanillyl alcohol, camphene and resin.
Action : -
Gingerols: 1. It causes suppression of spontaneous Ca2+ spikes and is
ometric contractions. 2. It inhibits human platelet activation and aggregation. 3. It inhibits the growth of H. pylori CagA+ strains in vitro and contributes to its chemopreventative effects. 4. It significantly inhibits prostaglandin biosynthesizing enzyme (PG synthetase).
Curing Diseases -1. It is used in dyspepsia, diarrhoea, colic, flatulence, vomiting and nausea.
2. It is used in cough, cold, asthma and pharyngopathy.
3. It is used in cholera, elephantiasis and inflammations.
4. It is also helpful in cardiac diseases.
Research Information: Extract of Zingiber officinale rhizome is a potent inhibitor of platelet activation and aggregation. (Ref.
